ETEP 2017- 2019 Goals

As a teacher, one of my goals is to improve and grow as a professional and learn new techniques and strategies that I can incorporate into my toolbox as a teacher. Currently the role of a teacher has many dimensions, some of them totally new. Not all students in a class have the same pace of learning or are the same type of learner. A student (and myself as a teacher) can be a visual learner, a verbal learner, a kinesthetic learner.

My philosophy of education can be summarized in a phrase of Todd Ross from his book "The End of Average":

"Any system designed around the average person is doomed to fail".

Here are some of my goals I had as a teacher before starting the ETEP program:

1. Learn how to integrate technology in my daily lessons in a meaningful way.

2. Get to know some Google Apps and websites to use with Chromebooks and help my students to succeed learning Spanish as a second language.

3. Become confident about using new tools in my class and integrate them in my lesson plans.

After Year 1 ETEP I have been thinking about my goals and objectives as a teacher using technology in class:

1. Integrate some tech tools in a really meaningful way. In this 21st century technology plays a leading role in the classroom and we must encourage its presence in many aspects of our daily teaching process.

2. Involve parents more in their kids' education. One of the goals of every teacher is to get parents to get more involved in their children's education and technology helps a lot in this process.

3. Incorporate gamification elements in my lessons. Game based learning and gamification are essential for the development of a child and one of my goals is to incorporate it more often in my daily practice.Technology plays an essential role here.

During this second year of the ETEP program I want to be able to integrate new technological elements in my lessons to make the learning of my students more meaningful. I have been reading a lot about the SAMR framework and my goal is to ensure that the integration of technology in my lessons is at the Modification and Redefinition levels for as much time as possible.

Also one of my goals is to continue using hyperdocs in my lessons since they seem to me a tool with many possibilities and that allow me to take my lessons to a deeper point where my students mark their own rhythm of learning.

My desire is to achieve the definitive leap from teacher-centered instruction to student-centered instruction. I want my students to learn how to be cooperative and collaborative and my goal is to encourage my students to direct their own learning and to work with other students on research projects and assignments that are both culturally and socially relevant to them.
