ABOUT ME

Why have I become a teacher? It's a good question that doesn’t have an easy answer. I could say that I always knew I would be a teacher, but in reality it isn’t true.

Throughout my childhood and adolescence I would tutor my friends in English and help them grasp concepts and events in History. I would tell myself that I am doing so as an excuse to invade their mother’s pantry, in particular homemade rice pudding. But in reality I gained satisfaction from helping others learn.

In my early twenties, I was fortunate enough to find inspiring teachers who passed on their passion for teaching and lifelong learning. I learned that being a good teacher doesn’t mean being an expert in a particular subject, but a tool to convey knowledge is methods that maximum understanding. One valuable aid that helped my teachers pass on knowledge was technology.

My philosophy of education can be summarized in a phrase of Todd Ross from his book "The End of Average": 'Any system designed around the average person is doomed to fail'.  No two children are the same, each one learns at a different speed and we should keep that in mind each time we enter the class. My ultimate goal is to give students the tools to face challenges in the real world, learn from mistakes, and maintain a passion for education.
